This week we’re reviewing a very special bourbon out of Sheffield MA. Berkshire Mountain Distillers, in collaboration with 10 influential brewers across the United States, is releasing special cask finished editions of their signature bourbon.
In Massachusetts Berkshire Mountain Distillers has partnered with Samuel Adams to offer a Utopias twist to their Berkshire Mountain bourbon. Each Cask Finished edition spent their final three months in a reclaimed Samuel Adams Utopias barrel.
Sam Adams Utopias is a 29% ABV beer which carries sweet malty and caramel flavors. A limited batch is released every year which retails around $200. This unique beer is aged in bourbon, port, and rum barrels and is sold in a copper bottle. This is a beer meant for sipping very slowly.
Berkshire Mountain Bourbon
Berkshire Mountain bourbon opens with notes of mocha, vanilla and an exuberance of rye, all reminiscent of Berkshire Bourbon. It is the mid palate and finish where the influence of the Utopias beer and the Tawny and Vintage port barrels within which it aged kicks in. Fig, maple and a sweet port finish dominate the taste buds.
Berkshire Mountain Bourbon Whiskey is handcrafted in small batches using local corn sourced from a farmer two miles from the distillery. After meticulous fermentation and distillation, only the finely cut of spirit is selected to be aged in virgin American white oak barrels. Established in 2007, Berkshire Mountain Distillers (BMD) has created a line of award-winning artisanal spirits including Greylock Gin, Ethereal Gins, Ragged Mountain Rum, Ice Glen Vodka, Berkshire Bourbon and New England Corn Whiskey, currently available in 19 different states. All products are handcrafted in small batches in Great Barrington, Massachusetts at the Berkshire’s first legal distillery since prohibition. – BMD
We have only seen this bourbon available in our local Wegmans which retails between $50 – $60. We highly recommend you pick up a bottle of this bourbon. It’s smooth vanilla flavor and coating on the stones warms your heart. No seriously, just pick up a bottle and give this a try.
