Sometimes you are looking for a little more than just a straight whiskey or scotch. Sometimes you’re looking to just make things more complicated than they seem. Sometimes you’re just trying to be an overachiever know-it-all. Either way this week we will be showing you how to make a blood and sand.
The Blood and Sand
- 1 oz. of Scotch Whiskey
- 1 oz. of Orange Juice
- 3/4 oz. of Sweet Vermouth
- 3/4 oz. of Cherry Liqueur
Directions
Add scotch whiskey, orange juice, sweet vermouth, and cherry liqueur to a mixing glass with ice and shake like a bad ass. Then strain over a chilled glass and garnish with a twisted orange peel. This is required for finesse.
Now take a huge sip and enjoy all of your hard work.
The History
Blood and Sand is one of the few classic mixed drinks that includes Scotch. It was named for Rudolph Valentino‘s 1922 bullfighter movie Blood and Sand. The red juice of the blood orange in the drink helped link it with the film. The recipe is first known to have appeared in the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book.
